Tom Waselchuk & John Parrott Guitar Duo

Vintage swing & country blues.

I’m honored to be performing with John here and there over the summer. John has a well-earned reputation as a consummate rhythm guitarist, but to describe his approach as “old school” is a gross over-simplification. There is an undeniable elegance to the straight-forward approach to the guitar as exemplified by many great swing guitarists of the early to mid 20th century. I am learning much from John, and though he’s one of the best rhythm players around (anywhere!), he’s no slouch as a lead soloist either. Expect some flashy guitar picking as well as a bunch of cool vocal tunes.

This is from Johns’ press kit:

John Parrott is a rare species in the vast genus of acoustic guitarists. He plays the archtop rhythm guitar in a style that was common from the 1930s to the 1950s (think Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, and Bob Wills). For forty years he’s applied his skills, sensibilities, and adult chords to the field of String Jazz, backing up such luminaries as John Hartford, Vassar Clements, and Steve Goodman. John is especially noted for his many years of laying down the swinging pulse for the great jazz mandolinists Jethro Burns and Don Stiernberg.
