In addition to garnering recognition from listeners’ polls in their hometown of Madison WI, The Dang-Its have earned seven nominations from the Madison Area Music Association’s annual awards, winning two: 2013 Country/Bluegrass Performer of the Year, and 2014 Country/Bluegrass Album of the Year, for their album A Lick of Sense.
Tom Waselchuk, the band’s featured singer and songwriter, is a multi-instrumentalist whose background includes playing guitar, bass, and pedal steel guitar in bands ranging from country and bluegrass to jazz ensembles, big bands, and his own sextet, Full Count Jazz Band. Tom is a teacher, songwriter, free-lancer, and soloist, and has toured the U.S. and the Far East with the gypsy swing ensemble Harmonious Wail.
Rick Nass (pedal steel guitar), co-founder, has performed with many popular country bands including Lickety Split, Rosebud, and Crossfire. Matt Rodgers (bass and vocals) also has a Bachelor of Arts (music) degree and a similarly extensive playing résumé. Matt was a member of Harmonious Wail with Tom from 2009 through 2011 and joined The Dang-Its in 2015.
The Dang-Its have released five albums and performed in seven mid-west states in their 18-year history. The trio also forms the core of a separate musical venture, a classic country music revue titled Sweet Dreams & Honky Tonks: The Music and Lives of Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, and Johnny Cash.
